Same day document courier
Our document courier collects your envelope, keeps it with one driver for the whole trip and hands it to the person you name, with a signed and timed proof of delivery. Same day, anywhere in mainland UK, at any hour.
- One driver from collection to handover
- Delivered to a named recipient
- Signed, timed proof of delivery

Why documents go by courier when email exists
Most paperwork is digital now. The documents that still travel on paper are the ones where the original matters: a signed contract with wet-ink signatures, title deeds, a passport, a sealed tender, a court bundle a judge has asked for in hard copy. When those go missing or arrive late, there's usually no quick way to fix it.
That's why the important part of a document courier service isn't speed alone. It's knowing exactly where the envelope is, who has handled it, and who signed for it at the other end.
Chain of custody: who holds the envelope
On a dedicated document job, one driver collects the envelope from you and keeps it until it is handed over. It doesn't go through a sorting office, a depot or a second driver. That gives you a short, clear chain of custody:
- You hand the sealed envelope to the driver at collection.
- The driver drives directly to the delivery address with nothing else on board for anyone else.
- The named recipient signs for it on the driver's device.
- You receive a proof of delivery showing the recipient's name, the time and their signature, with a photo where useful.
You'll get live updates while the driver is on the way, so you know when to tell the recipient to expect it. Our guide to proof of delivery explains what the record shows and how to use it if a delivery is disputed.
Sealing confidential documents
Put the papers in a strong envelope, or a tamper-evident security bag if you have them, and seal it before the driver arrives. If the bag has a serial number, add it to the booking notes. The recipient can then check the number matches and the seal is intact before signing. Don't write a description of the contents on the outside.
Tender submissions
Many public-sector bids are now uploaded through online portals, but some clients still want sealed hard copies, physical samples or signed originals delivered by a fixed time. Late tenders are commonly excluded without being opened, however good they are.
Picture a bid team in Cambridge finishing a 400-page submission at 10.00 am that must be at a council office in Birmingham by 2.00 pm. That works by van with a sensible margin, but only if the collection is booked before the printing is finished. Book the vehicle as soon as you know the deadline, tell us the exact building and reception named in the instructions, and we'll plan the collection time backwards from the drive. For more on planning around fixed deadlines, see our guide to organising time-critical deliveries.
Legal, property and court documents
Law firms, conveyancers and finance teams use us for papers that must arrive as originals and on time:
- Completion documents. Signed transfers, deeds and certificates that need to reach the other side's solicitor the same day.
- Contracts for signature. Sent out, signed and brought straight back on a wait and return job.
- Court filings and bundles. Many filings are now made online. Where a hard copy is required, check the court's counter or post room hours and its bundle requirements, because a courier arriving after the counter closes won't help. We'll deliver to the address and contact you give us.
- Wills and original documents moving between firms or to clients.
If you handle this work every week, our legal and financial courier page explains how we work with law firms, and a business account makes repeated bookings quicker.

Passports, visas and embassy documents
We carry passports, visa applications and supporting documents to embassies, consulates and visa application centres, and return documents to you or your traveller when they're ready to collect. Many of these offices are in central London, so our London courier drivers handle a lot of this work, but we collect from anywhere in mainland UK.
Please be clear on where our part stops. We provide the transport, the handover and the proof of delivery. We don't prepare applications, check forms or deal with consular staff on your behalf. Embassy rules vary a great deal:
Check before you book
Many embassies and visa centres work by appointment only, and some will only accept an application from the applicant in person because they take fingerprints and a photograph. Others accept documents from a third party with a signed letter of authority. Check the embassy's or visa centre's own guidance first, and give us the appointment reference, opening hours and any authorisation letter with the booking.
Booking a document courier
Tell us the collection and delivery addresses, the recipient's full name, the deadline and anything the receiving office needs to see, such as a reference or appointment number. We'll confirm a fixed price and an estimated collection time based on where the nearest suitable vehicle is. Documents normally go in a small van, which keeps the cost down. If the deadline is close, our urgent courier service explains what happens once you call.
Goods in transit cover is included as standard. If the documents are valuable in themselves, such as original deeds or share certificates, tell us when you book; our terms set out the limits.
FAQ
Common questions
Can you deliver only to a specific person?
Yes. Give us the recipient's full name, and the driver will ask for that person and take their signature. If they aren't available, the driver contacts us before handing the documents to anyone else, and we contact you. Tell us in advance if a named deputy is acceptable, so there's a plan if the recipient is in a meeting or out of the office.
Can you take my passport and visa application to an embassy?
We can carry the documents to an embassy, consulate or visa application centre and get a signature on handover. What we can't do is make the application for you. Many embassies and visa centres only accept documents by appointment or from the applicant in person, often because they need fingerprints and a photograph. Check the rules for your embassy before booking, and tell us any appointment reference.
How do I make sure a tender arrives before the deadline?
Book as early as you can, even if the documents aren't ready yet, and tell us the exact deadline and the place the tender instructions name. We'll plan the collection time backwards from the drive. Include any reference the client asked for on the envelope. The proof of delivery records who received it and when, which matters if the submission time is ever questioned.
Is a courier more secure than Royal Mail Special Delivery?
They solve different problems. Special Delivery Guaranteed is a tracked, signed-for postal service, usually for delivery by 1.00 pm the next working day, and it's good value for documents that can wait until then. A dedicated courier is for the same day, or for when you want the envelope in one person's hands throughout instead of passing through sorting offices.
Can the driver wait for documents to be signed and bring them back?
Yes, that's a wait and return job. The driver hands the papers to the signatory, waits while they're signed and returns them to you or takes them on to another address, with signatures at each handover. Tell us how long the wait is likely to be when you book. There's more on how these jobs work on our dedicated courier page.
Do you deliver documents at night or at weekends?
Yes. We run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including bank holidays. Late-night and weekend document runs are common before Monday deadlines and completions. The constraint is usually the receiving end, so make sure someone will be there to sign, or arrange a named contact who can meet the driver at an agreed time. See our weekend courier service for planned weekend work.
