Capital city work
Cardiff's courier work reflects its role as the Welsh capital. The Senedd in Cardiff Bay, Welsh Government offices in Cathays Park, the courts and a strong legal community, and the national broadcaster's headquarters at Central Square all depend on documents and equipment arriving on time. Add the city's hospitals, three universities and a large media production sector, and most jobs come with a deadline attached.
When you book, tell us the deadline as well as the addresses. We then send the closest suitable van from wherever it is at that moment, which might be finishing a job in Newport or coming back over the bridge from Bristol, and confirm an estimated collection time on the strength of that. Your consignment rides alone from collection to signature.
Cathays Park, the courts and the legal district
Cathays Park is the civic centre: Welsh Government buildings, City Hall, Cardiff Crown Court and Cardiff University's main buildings. The Cardiff Civil and Family Justice Centre is on Park Street, close to Central Station, and many law firms and accountants are spread between Callaghan Square, Central Square and the streets around St Mary Street.
Jobs we see here include:
- a tender submission for a public body that has to be in by noon
- signed contracts going from a Cardiff law firm to a client in Swansea
- court bundles needed at the Civil and Family Justice Centre before a hearing
- original documents travelling to a barristers' chambers in Bristol or London
Our legal and financial courier page covers how we handle sensitive papers, and the document courier page explains single envelope and box jobs.
Cardiff Bay and the media sector
Cardiff Bay has the Senedd, offices, hotels and major production facilities, including the BBC's drama studios at Roath Lock. The BBC Cymru Wales headquarters at Central Square, other studios across the city, and a large community of independent production and post-production companies make Cardiff one of the UK's main centres for television and film outside London.
Production work has its own rhythm: rushes and drives to post houses, camera and lighting kit returning to hire companies, and props or costume moving between locations. Shoots overrun, so we agree waiting time in advance. See our film and TV production courier page for the details that matter on set.

Hospitals and universities
The University Hospital of Wales at Heath Park is the main hospital destination, along with University Hospital Llandough to the south of the city. Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of South Wales all have Cardiff campuses. Laboratory samples and medicines must be packaged correctly by the sender before collection; see our medical and pharmaceutical courier page.
The M4, the valleys and the Severn crossings
The M4 runs along the north of Cardiff, with junction 29 (A48(M)) for the east, junction 32 (A470) for the north of the city and the valleys, and junction 33 (A4232) for the west and Cardiff Bay. Cardiff Gate business park sits by junction 30.
The pinch point is to the east, at Newport, where the two-lane Brynglas tunnels between junctions 25 and 26 slow traffic in both directions at peak times. A van leaving Cardiff for Bristol at 7.00 am usually does much better than one leaving at 8.00 am.
Since December 2018, both Severn crossings have been toll-free. The M4 Prince of Wales Bridge carries most traffic to Bristol and London; the older M48 Severn Bridge is the alternative, though it can close in high winds. For direct same-day runs into England, our dedicated courier service is the simplest option.

FAQ
Common questions
Do you still charge for the Severn Bridge tolls on Cardiff to Bristol jobs?
No. Tolls on both Severn crossings, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and the M48 Severn Bridge, were removed in December 2018, so there is no toll to pass on. Cardiff to Bristol is about 45 road miles, usually via the M4. Traffic around the Brynglas tunnels at Newport is the more common cause of delay, and we time collections to avoid it where possible.
Can you get tender documents to a Welsh Government office by a deadline?
Yes, if the documents are ready in time. Welsh Government offices are spread across Cathays Park, Cardiff Bay and other sites, and each has its own reception and post arrangements, so give us the exact building and the name or team receiving. The van goes direct from your office with no other stops, and you receive a signed proof of delivery with the recipient's name and the time.
We are a production company in Cardiff Bay. Can a van wait while we wrap?
Yes. Productions rarely finish to the minute, so we agree waiting time when you book and the driver stays until the kit is packed. A long-wheelbase van or a Luton with a tail lift suits most camera, lighting and wardrobe loads. We operate 24 hours a day, so late-night returns to hire companies in Bristol or London are routine work for us.
Does Cardiff have a Clean Air Zone for vans?
No. Cardiff does not operate a charging Clean Air Zone, so there is no clean-air charge in a Cardiff quote. If your consignment is going on to a city that does have one, such as Bristol or Birmingham, any charge that applies to the vehicle on your job is included in the fixed price you agree before collection.
