Three kinds of Northampton consignment
Northampton has always made and moved things. The town grew on shoes and leather, became a logistics centre because of its position on the M1, and now sits on the eastern edge of the cluster of motorsport and high-performance engineering firms around Silverstone. Each of those sectors sends different consignments with different deadlines, so this page takes them one at a time.
Whatever the goods, you get the same arrangement: a van and driver reserved for your job alone, travelling from your door to the recipient's without detours. We look for the closest van that suits the load and, from its position, give you an estimated collection time at booking.
Distribution parks: Brackmills, Grange Park and Moulton Park
The large sheds are the most visible part of Northampton's economy. Brackmills Industrial Estate, beside the A45 to the south-east of the town centre, is one of the biggest business parks in the area, with distribution centres, manufacturers and trade suppliers. Grange Park sits right beside M1 junction 15, and Moulton Park in the north houses a mix of offices, light industry and warehousing.
What these sites usually need from a same-day courier is not small parcels. It is a pallet that missed a network trailer, a cage of stock for a store that ran out, or a part for a conveyor or sortation system that has stopped. If you are moving pallets or bulky stock, the pallet delivery page sets out the pallet count for each van size and why payload tends to run out before floor space.
Getting through the gatehouse first time
Distribution centres run on booking references. Before you book, have the slot time, the PO or booking number and the dock or goods-in door. Without them, a van can sit outside a DC for an hour or be sent away, and the cost of that wait lands on the job.
Footwear and leather goods
Northampton's shoe trade is smaller than it was, but the factories that remain make high-quality footwear and leather goods for brands at home and abroad, and they work to fashion calendars. Samples for a buyer, a repaired order for a retailer, or a set of lasts and patterns between a factory and a designer are typical urgent jobs. These consignments are light but valuable, and the presentation matters: boxes should arrive clean and unopened. For goods that must look perfect when they are opened, see how our fragile and high-value courier service handles them.
Motorsport valley on the A43
South-west of Northampton, the A43 runs past Towcester to Silverstone and on towards Brackley and the M40. The area around the circuit, and across into Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, is home to teams, engineering suppliers, composite specialists and test facilities. Their urgent work is precise: a machined component that must reach a team before a test session, a set of composite parts going to an inspection facility, or an engine or gearbox component that cannot be trusted to a parcel network.
We handle that work as a dedicated, direct run with a named recipient. On normal days the A43 is a fast dual carriageway; on major event days at Silverstone, traffic and access controls around the circuit change everything, and we plan around them. Our automotive courier page covers parts runs for workshops, dealers and engineering firms more generally.
Roads and timings
Northampton sits on the M1 at junctions 15, 15A and 16. The A45 links the town to the M1 in the west and to Wellingborough and the A14 in the east; the A43 runs south-west to Silverstone and north-east to Kettering; and the A14 to the north connects the Midlands with Cambridge and Felixstowe. At rush hour, expect delays on the A45 near Brackmills and on the approach to junction 15.

FAQ
Common questions
Can you get a part to a team near Silverstone on a race weekend?
Yes, but plan for traffic. Silverstone is roughly 17 miles from Northampton down the A43, a short run on a normal day. On major event weekends the A43 and the local roads around the circuit are extremely busy and access is controlled, so we need the exact unit or gate, the contact's name and any pass or delivery instruction the team or circuit has issued. For a business park unit away from the circuit, normal timings usually apply.
We make footwear in Northampton. Can you take samples to a London buyer today?
Yes. Central London is about 67 miles away via the M1, so if we collect in the morning or by early afternoon, the boxes are usually in a London showroom or office that day. Boxed shoes travel well in a small van; tell us the number of cartons and the latest acceptable delivery time. The buyer signs for them and you receive the proof of delivery.
Can you deliver a pallet into a distribution centre at Brackmills?
Yes. Give us the slot time and booking reference from the DC, plus whatever it requires on wrapping, labels and pallet type. We send a van sized to the pallet count and aim to arrive before the slot opens. If the pallet needs a tail lift to come off at a site without a dock, book a Luton van with a tail lift. Our guide to preparing a pallet for collection covers the basics.
Do you cover the rest of Northamptonshire, such as Daventry, Wellingborough and Corby?
Yes. Our coverage takes in the whole of the British mainland, so Daventry and the DIRFT rail freight terminal, Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby, Towcester and Brackley are handled just like Northampton itself. Every job gets its own van, whichever suitable one is closest when you book.
Can goods collected in Northampton reach Felixstowe the same day for an export booking?
Usually, yes. Felixstowe is around 120 miles east along the A14, so a morning collection leaves time to deliver within the same working day. Ports and container yards have strict delivery rules: give us the haulier or forwarder reference and the booking window, and make sure the export documents are ready before collection. We deliver to the landside point the forwarder specifies.
