Six retail jobs a dedicated van does well

Retail runs on stock being in the right place at the right moment, and parcel networks are built for the opposite: a low cost per parcel, delivered when the route allows. Most of the retail work we are booked for falls into one of six patterns.

Store-to-store stock transfers

It is Thursday afternoon. Your Leeds store has sold out of a bestseller in two sizes, and the Manchester store has a full size run sitting in the stockroom. A transfer through the warehouse would land on Monday. A van collected at 3.00 pm has it on the shop floor that evening, ready for the weekend.

Launch-day stock

Product launches often come with an embargo: stock must not be on show before a set time, but it must be in the store before doors open. We plan to arrive within your window, not as early as possible, and hand over only to the person you name.

Same-day orders for your best customers

A regular client needs a dress for an event tonight, or a trade customer has a showroom visit in the morning. A high-value item can travel in a dedicated van with nothing else on board and be handed to the customer in person, with a signature to prove it.

B2B ecommerce

Online trade orders, such as a salon restocking products or a restaurant replacing kitchen equipment, are usually worth more per order than consumer parcels and come with a business that is losing money until they arrive. Same-day delivery is often what wins the repeat order.

Pop-up shops and concessions

A pop-up needs fixtures, stock, card terminals and signage in place on fit-out day, and all of it collected again when the lease ends. One van can deliver everything in the sequence the fitters need, then come back for the collection.

Visual merchandising kit

Mannequins, window props and point-of-sale displays are bulky, fragile and needed across several stores on the same night or morning. A multi-drop route covers each branch in turn, with a proof of delivery at every stop.

Service yards, loading bays and the high street

Retail addresses are rarely as simple as a postcode. Shopping centres usually route deliveries through a service yard, sometimes with a booking process and sometimes with a height limit in an underground yard. High streets have loading restrictions marked on the kerb, pedestrianised zones with timed vehicle access, and in London, red routes where stopping is tightly controlled. The London Congestion Charge and ULEZ may also apply, and will be included in your quote.

Give us the delivery entrance, any booking reference, the hours vehicles may enter and the name of the person receiving. That turns a circuit of the block into a straight handover. Early-morning deliveries before pedestrianised streets close to traffic are often the easiest of all.

Same day for your online shop: when it's worth it

A dedicated van is not the cheapest way to send a single small parcel, and we would not pretend otherwise. It is the right choice when the order is urgent, valuable, bulky or part of a batch heading to one area.

Item Dedicated same-day van Next-day parcel network
Speed Direct from collection to delivery, same day Hub sorted, usually next day or later
Handling Loaded once, unloaded once Several sortation points
Bulky or fragile items Travels as packed, in the van Size limits and handling risk
Cost per item Higher for one small parcel Lower at volume
Best for Urgent, high-value, bulky or batched local orders Routine small parcels

Our guide to dedicated couriers versus parcel networks goes into the trade-off in more detail. For single boxes that still need to go today, see same-day parcel delivery.

Returns and end-of-season collections

Returns are easier to manage when you control the collection. We collect faulty or unwanted goods from customers' homes for inspection, bring B2B returns back to the warehouse, and consolidate end-of-season stock from several stores into one van for the trip back to the distribution centre. Each collection is recorded with a name, time and signature, which helps your goods-in team match stock to the right return.

Retailers who book regularly can apply for a business account, with invoicing for approved businesses.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you move stock between two of our stores on the same day?

Yes. Give us both store addresses, a contact at each and roughly how many cartons or rails are going. We confirm an estimated collection time when you book, based on where the nearest suitable vehicle is, and a fixed price. Let the sending store know the van is coming so the stock is counted and packed, because a driver waiting while a stockroom pulls lines adds time and can add cost.

Can you deliver an online order to a customer's home this evening?

Yes. We work 24 hours a day, so an order packed in the afternoon can reach a customer that evening anywhere in mainland UK, distance allowing. Send us the customer's name and mobile number so the driver can call ahead, and decide in advance what happens if they are out. The signed proof of delivery is then there if the order is ever queried.

Our launch stock must not be handed over before a set time. Can you manage that?

Yes. Tell us the earliest handover time as well as the latest, and the driver will plan to arrive within that window rather than as early as possible. If the van gets there ahead of time, it waits until the agreed moment. Give us the name of the person allowed to sign, so the stock goes only to them.

Can one van deliver to several of our stores in a morning?

Yes, as a multi-drop run. Window kits, point-of-sale material and replenishment stock are often split across several branches before opening. Send us the stores in the order you prefer, any opening or delivery-yard times, and what goes to each, and we plan the route with a proof of delivery at every drop.

Do you collect returns from customers?

Yes. We collect from homes and businesses and bring the goods back to your store, warehouse or repair centre. For high-value or faulty items, ask the customer to pack the item in its original box if they still have it, and give us a returns reference to write on the proof of collection, so your goods-in team can match it.

Can you deliver into a shopping centre service yard?

Yes. Many centres ask for deliveries to be booked with centre management or the security team, and some underground service yards have a height limit. Tell us the centre's process and any height restriction when you book, and we will send a vehicle that fits and brief the driver on where to report.
