The real challenge in Brighton is the last hundred metres

Getting a van to Brighton is easy: the M23 and A23 bring it down from the M25 and Gatwick, and the A27 runs along the back of the city from Worthing to Lewes. The difficult part is the final stretch. Most of central Brighton and Hove is in controlled parking zones, the Lanes and North Laine are largely pedestrian or one-way, and seafront loading space is limited and heavily used.

That changes how a good Brighton collection is planned. Before the van arrives, we want to know where it can legally stop, how far the goods travel from your door to the kerb, and whether one person can carry them. A five-minute conversation at booking saves twenty minutes of circling on the day, and keeps the job affordable.

When you book, we allocate the nearest suitable dedicated vehicle and confirm an estimated collection time based on where it is. That is also the moment to give us the parking and carrying details, so the driver arrives knowing where to stop.

How to make a Brighton handover quick

  • Name a legal stopping point, such as a loading bay, a side street or your building's rear access
  • Give the driver a mobile phone number, and answer it when they call on approach
  • Have the goods packed, labelled and by the door, not still on the second floor
  • For heavy cases, have a trolley ready or book a Luton van with a tail lift

Studios, agencies and digital businesses

Brighton's creative and digital sector is spread across converted buildings around the station, North Laine, Hove and the New England Quarter, with many small studios rather than a few big offices. The work they send us tends to be valuable and awkward: camera and lighting cases going back to a London rental house, a finished print run for a client presentation, a workstation or server that must reach a data centre, or prototype hardware heading to an investor.

For computer equipment, our IT equipment courier service covers packing advice and handover at secure sites. For production kit, the film and TV courier page explains how we handle multi-case loads with item lists and counts. Either way, the consignment stays in one van with one driver from collection to signature.

Conferences, events and the seafront venues

Brighton hosts a steady programme of conferences, exhibitions and festivals, from the Brighton Centre and the seafront hotels to the Amex Stadium at Falmer and the University of Sussex campus beside it. Event deliveries have hard edges: the venue's delivery window, the stand number, the organiser's contractor rules and, quite often, a show that opens at 9.00 am whether your banners have arrived or not.

We work to those details. Give us the window and the venue's instructions, and we plan the arrival accordingly. If something has been forgotten in the office on the morning of the event, an urgent courier can usually bring it from London or elsewhere in the South East the same day.

London and Gatwick on the A23 and M23

The A23 and M23 corridor is the busiest Brighton route we run. Typical jobs include signed documents for a London law firm, samples to a buyer's office, and consignments to cargo agents and forwarders on the landside at Gatwick. The road is quick outside peak hours, but the A23 around Patcham and the M23 approach to the M25 can slow considerably on Friday afternoons and summer weekends.

FAQ

Common questions

Our office is in the Lanes and there is nowhere for a van to stop. How does collection work?

Tell us the nearest point a van can legally reach, which is often a loading bay on a street at the edge of the Lanes, and have someone meet the driver there or be ready at the door. The driver will call when a few minutes away. For anything heavier than one person can carry, plan a short walk with a trolley or agree a different meeting point. A prepared handover is quicker and avoids a parking ticket.

Can you deliver to an exhibition or conference at the Brighton Centre?

Yes. Venues on the seafront usually run booked delivery windows through a service entrance, so send us the event name, the stand or room, the delivery window and the organiser's contractor instructions. We plan the arrival around that window. For larger exhibition loads, our events and exhibitions courier page explains how we handle build-up and breakdown days.

Can you take something to Gatwick for a flight?

We deliver to landside addresses at Gatwick, such as a cargo agent, freight forwarder or a named person meeting the van at the terminal. We do not have airside access. Gatwick is around 28 miles from central Brighton up the A23 and M23, so a same-day delivery is usually straightforward; give us the agent's cut-off time and their booking reference.

We hired camera and lighting kit from London. Can you return it today?

Yes, this is one of the most common Brighton jobs. Pack the cases as you received them, list the items and count, and photograph the kit before the driver arrives. The rental house signs for the cases at their counter and you get the proof of delivery. Central London is a little over 50 miles away, so an afternoon collection can usually reach a rental house before it closes.

Do you cover Hove, Shoreham and the Downs villages as well?

Yes. We collect from and deliver to anywhere in mainland UK, so Hove, Portslade, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lewes and the villages north of the city are all covered in the same way as central Brighton. Rural addresses with narrow lanes or farm tracks are fine; tell us about any access limits so we can send a suitable van.
