Furniture courier for single pieces and small loads
A dedicated van and driver to move a sofa, a sideboard, an auction win or a few office desks from one address to another, wrapped and strapped, the same day anywhere in mainland UK. We move items, not households.
- Blankets and straps on every job
- Luton vans with tail lift
- Shops, auctions, makers and offices
Furniture delivery without the removals van
Most people looking for a furniture courier are not moving house. They have bought a chest of drawers from a seller forty miles away, a shop needs a sofa at a customer's door by Saturday, or a maker has finished a dining table and wants it handled by someone who will not drag it across a pavement. That is the work we do.
A furniture courier booking with us means one van and one driver, collecting your piece and driving it directly to the delivery address. Nothing is sorted at a depot or passed between vehicles. The item is loaded once, wrapped and strapped, and unloaded once at the other end. We collect and deliver anywhere in mainland UK, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
We move items, not households. If you need a full home packed up, a removals company is the better fit. If you need a wardrobe, a piano stool, a set of chairs or a few boxed flat-packs to go from A to B today, we can quote straight away.
Who books our furniture delivery service
Our furniture delivery service is booked by shops and showrooms, auction houses and private buyers, upholsterers, restorers and furniture makers, and businesses moving trade or office furniture. What they share is a piece that needs careful handling in a dedicated van, not a parcel network or a removals service.
Shops and showrooms
Independent furniture shops, interiors showrooms and second-hand dealers often sell more than their own delivery van can keep up with. We carry individual orders from the shop floor or stockroom to the customer's home, and the customer gets a signed proof of delivery on handover. For retailers sending regular orders, our page on retail and e-commerce deliveries explains how repeat bookings work.
Auction houses and private buyers
An auction win needs to leave the saleroom inside its collection window, and private sales arranged online usually need collecting from a stranger's home. We collect from the saleroom or the seller, wrap the piece on the spot and bring it to you.
Upholsterers, restorers and furniture makers
A reupholstered armchair or a restored bureau comes back to its owner in a finished state, so the last thing anyone wants is a scuffed arm or a chipped corner. A commissioned table can represent weeks of a maker's time. These jobs travel well in a dedicated van because nothing else is loaded against them. For pieces that are especially delicate or valuable, see our fragile and high-value courier service.
Trade and office furniture
Fit-out contractors, office managers and hotel suppliers use us to move desks, meeting tables, storage units, reception seating and display furniture between sites. A typical job might be eight desks and pedestals going from a closing office in Reading to a new one in Swindon. Larger mixed loads of trade goods are covered on our light haulage page.
How the furniture travels
Unboxed furniture is wrapped in removal blankets and secured to the van's tie-down points with straps, so it cannot slide or tip under braking. Items are loaded so that nothing heavy sits on anything fragile, and legs, feet and corners are kept clear of the van walls.
Blankets prevent rubbing and surface marks. They do not make glass, marble tops or mirrors safe from impact, so those parts still need proper protection before collection: corner protectors, cardboard sheets, bubble wrap and tape across glass panels. Our guide to packaging fragile items for a courier covers the basics, and the same principles apply to a glass-fronted cabinet as to a box of ceramics.
Before the driver arrives
- Remove drawers and shelves, or tape them closed
- Take off glass tops and wrap them separately
- Unscrew detachable legs and bag the fixings
- Empty cupboards and wardrobes completely
- Note any existing marks or repairs so they can be recorded at collection
Measuring access at both ends
A van can carry far more than a doorway can admit. The deliveries that go wrong are usually the ones where nobody checked the route from the kerb to the room.
Before you book, measure the piece at its widest, deepest and tallest points. Then walk the route at both addresses and note:
- the width of the front door, any internal doors and any gate
- whether there are steps up to the entrance
- the staircase: straight, turning, or with a narrow landing, and the headroom
- for flats, the floor number and the lift's internal depth and door width
- where the van can stop, and how far it is from there to the door
Lifts in older blocks are often too shallow for a sofa standing on its end, and turning staircases defeat long items that a straight flight would take easily. Send us these details with the quote request and we will tell you honestly if something looks unlikely to fit. Delivery to the ground-floor entrance is the standard arrangement; carrying further into a building is something we agree at booking, not on the doorstep.

Choosing the van for furniture
Most single pieces fit an LWB van, which has a typical load length of about 3.4 m. Taller or heavier furniture, or several pieces at once, goes in a Luton van with a tail lift.
| Load | Usual vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Armchair, bedside cabinets, a few dining chairs | MWB van | enough floor and height for small furniture |
| Two-seater sofa, sideboard, single wardrobe | LWB van | about 3.4 m of floor for longer pieces |
| Three-seater sofa with armchair, double wardrobe, heavy dresser | Luton van with tail lift | square body about 2.0 m high; tail lift raises heavy items |
| Several office desks and storage units | Luton van with tail lift | most usable space we offer |
These are typical figures; exact load space depends on the vehicle model, and we confirm it at booking. The Luton's tail lift is typically rated to about 500 kg, which is plenty for a solid oak dresser or a commercial fridge but not for a piano at the heavier end of the range. Our van size guide has full dimensions for every vehicle.
Heavy pieces and lifting help
The driver will help load and unload, within what one person can lift safely. A tail lift removes the hardest part, the step up into the van, but someone still has to move the piece from the house to the tail lift and from the tail lift to its new home.
Tell us at booking if an item needs two people to lift, and we will confirm what can be arranged. Often the seller, the shop or the recipient can provide a second pair of hands at each end. What we will not do is send one driver to a three-seater sleeper sofa on a first floor and hope for the best.
Booking a furniture collection and delivery
To quote, we need both postcodes, a description of each piece with its measurements and rough weight, the access details above, and the names and mobile numbers of the people at each end. A photo of the item helps. If you are buying from a private seller or an auction house, our courier collection service page explains how to book a collection for someone else.
We agree a fixed price before collection, based on distance, vehicle, timing and any extras, and confirm an estimated collection time based on where the nearest suitable vehicle is. You get live updates on the road and a signed proof of delivery when the piece is handed over. If the load turns out to be a sofa plus a dozen boxes and a bicycle, our large item courier service covers mixed bulky loads in the same vans. You can request a furniture courier quote online at any time.
FAQ
Common questions
Do you do house moves or removals?
No. We move items, not households. A furniture courier booking covers one piece or a handful of pieces travelling from one address to another, such as a dresser bought at auction or six desks going to a new office. We do not pack rooms, dismantle a whole home or provide a removals crew. For a full house move, a removals firm is the right choice, and it will usually offer packing and storage too.
Can you collect furniture I have bought from a private seller?
Yes. Give us the seller's address, their name and mobile number, and a description and measurements of the item, ideally from the listing. Agree with the seller that the piece will be ready near the door and that they know a courier is coming. Payment between you and the seller should be settled before the driver arrives, because the driver collects goods rather than handling money.
Will two people come to carry a heavy piece?
Each van comes with one driver, who will help load and unload what they can lift safely. Tell us at booking if an item needs two people to lift, and we will confirm what can be arranged. Often the simplest answer is a second pair of hands at each end, such as the seller and the buyer, combined with a tail-lift Luton for the step up into the van.
Can you collect from an auction house the day after the sale?
Usually, yes. Most auction rooms set collection windows and ask for a paid invoice or lot release before goods leave. Send us the lot numbers, the saleroom address and its collection hours, and make sure the invoice is settled. The driver shows the saleroom staff your booking details, collects the lots and wraps them on site before loading.
Should I dismantle furniture before collection?
If a piece is designed to come apart, such as a bed frame, a dining table with removable legs or a modular sofa, dismantling it before the driver arrives saves time and reduces the risk of damage in a doorway. Bag and tape the screws and fixings to the largest part. The driver does not carry tools for dismantling or reassembly, so this is best done in advance.
Can you deliver to a flat on an upper floor?
It depends on the item, the building and whether there is a lift big enough to take it. Tell us the floor, the lift's internal size and door width, and the staircase layout when you book. Delivery to the ground-floor entrance is the normal arrangement; anything beyond that has to be agreed in advance, and we will say plainly if we think a stairwell will not work.
Is my furniture insured while it is with you?
Goods in transit insurance applies to every job as standard. Cover limits and exclusions are set out in our terms; tell us the value when booking and we will confirm cover, or arrange additional cover for high-value goods. For antiques or pieces with a fragile finish, mention any existing marks at collection so they can be noted before the item is wrapped.
