A city that still makes things
Leicester's hosiery and knitwear mills have mostly gone, but the city never stopped making and moving goods. Clothing manufacturers and wholesalers still work from units in Belgrave, North Evington and around the inner ring, alongside food producers, packaging firms, printers and engineering businesses on estates such as Troon Way, Beaumont Leys and Meridian Business Park. South of the city, the M1 and M69 corridor is lined with distribution centres, and Magna Park at Lutterworth, one of the largest in the country, is about 15 miles away.
That combination produces a very particular type of urgent job. It is rarely a single envelope. It is more often a few cartons of samples that must reach a buyer before a range review, a pallet of short-shipped stock that a retailer's DC is waiting for, or a replacement part for a packing line that has stopped. A same-day dedicated van suits all three because nothing is sorted, transferred or held overnight.
We allocate the nearest suitable vehicle from wherever it is, and confirm an estimated collection time when you book.
Three typical Leicester jobs
Samples to a buyer
A womenswear supplier finishes a set of pre-production samples on a Tuesday morning. The buyer is in central London and the range review is on Wednesday. A small van collects at noon, goes down the M1, and the samples are signed for at the buyer's office that afternoon. The supplier gets the proof of delivery with the recipient's name and time, which is often the document that settles any later dispute about whether samples arrived on time.
Rush stock for a distribution centre
A retailer's DC near the M1 or at Magna Park is short of a line. The supplier has the pallets but the network carrier cannot deliver until later in the week. We send an SWB or LWB van, depending on the pallet count, and book the arrival around the DC's slot. Our pallet delivery page explains how many pallets each van takes; the retail and ecommerce page covers DC deliveries more generally.
A part for a stopped line
A food or packaging plant on the outskirts loses a gearbox, sensor or set of change parts. The replacement is at a supplier in the West Midlands, around 45 miles away. We collect from the supplier and deliver straight to the engineering team. That kind of breakdown run is the core of our manufacturing and engineering courier work.

Hospitals and universities
The University Hospitals of Leicester run three main sites: the Leicester Royal Infirmary in the centre, the Glenfield to the north-west and the Leicester General to the east. Consignments between them, and out to other NHS and private labs, are regular work: equipment, records, supplies and properly packaged samples. The University of Leicester, De Montfort University and Space Park Leicester also send research equipment and documents that need careful handling and a named recipient.
Roads in and out
Leicester sits between M1 junctions 21 and 22, with the M69 heading south-west to Coventry and the M6, and the A46 bypass to the north linking towards Newark and the A1. East Midlands Airport is about 22 miles north via the M1. Inside the city, the A563 outer ring road and the routes into the centre are the slow parts at peak times, and the area around junction 21, where the M1, M69 and Fosse Park retail traffic meet, can queue at weekends as well as weekdays. We allow for that when a delivery has a fixed time.

FAQ
Common questions
The distribution centre we deliver to only accepts booked slots. Can you work to that?
Yes, and it is one of the most common Leicester requests. Send us the booking reference, the slot time, the gatehouse instructions and any rules on pallet type or labelling. We plan the collection so the van arrives before the slot rather than in it. If the slot is tight and the goods are not ready yet, tell us early: it is usually easier to rebook the slot than to explain a missed one.
Can you take finished garments to a buyer or showroom in London today?
Yes. Central London is around 100 miles from Leicester, so a morning collection usually leaves time for a same-day delivery. Boxed garments travel well in a small or SWB van. If the stock is on hangers, tell us how it is packed and how many pieces there are so we can advise on the vehicle; we do not fit garment rails, so cartons or covered bundles work best.
Do you collect from the industrial streets around Belgrave and North Evington?
Yes. Many of those units are on narrow terraced streets with limited room to stop, often behind a shop front or up a side entry. Tell us which door to use and whether goods come down from an upper floor, and have them ready at street level if you can. A quick, prepared handover keeps the van legal and the job on time.
We need a part moved between two hospital sites in Leicester. Can you help?
We can move properly packaged medical consignments and equipment between the Leicester Royal Infirmary, the Glenfield and the General, or out to other hospitals and labs. Give us the department, the receiving contact and any site delivery rules. Samples must be packed by the sender to the correct standard, and our medical courier page sets out what we need.
Our delivery missed its distribution-centre slot. What happens next?
The driver tells us at once, and we tell you, because most DCs will only accept a rebooked slot from the supplier. Once you have a new time, the van can wait if it is close, or we can arrange redelivery. Wait time and redelivery are charged as agreed, so it pays to share slot details fully at booking. Our guide to common causes of courier delays covers the usual reasons.
