Ayrshire's two directions
Most consignments from Ayr go one of two ways. North, the A77 becomes the M77 near Kilmarnock and runs into Glasgow and the motorway network. South, the A77 follows the coast to Girvan and then turns inland for Stranraer and the ferry port at Cairnryan. The two halves of the same road are very different to drive, and timings depend heavily on which way the van is heading.
The service is the same either way. Your consignment gets a dedicated van and driver. It is collected and taken directly to the delivery address, with no sorting centre, no hub and no other stops. Once you book, we allocate the nearest suitable vehicle and give you an estimated collection time.
Prestwick and the aerospace cluster
Glasgow Prestwick Airport, a few miles north of Ayr, is surrounded by aerospace manufacturing and maintenance businesses. Their urgent consignments are typically precision parts, tooling, test equipment and documentation, often moving between Prestwick and suppliers in England or Europe.
We work landside only. We deliver to the goods-in, stores or reception of the business at Prestwick, and that business handles anything that goes airside. We do not deliver to aircraft or carry out airside work. Within that limit, a dedicated van is often the fastest way to move a part that cannot wait for an overnight network, and our urgent courier service is set up for exactly that kind of short-notice booking.
Ayr itself
Ayr has a mix of retail, public services, tourism and light industry. Heathfield Industrial Estate, on the north side of the town near the A77, holds trade counters, engineering workshops and distributors. University Hospital Ayr, near the A77 on the south-eastern edge of the town, and the University of the West of Scotland's Ayr campus generate clinical and academic consignments. Ayr harbour handles commercial cargo at the mouth of the river.
Inland, Ayrshire is dairy and farming country, and the food businesses that depend on it need parts and supplies quickly when a line stops. For heavier items, pallets of packaging or ingredients, our pallet delivery service explains which van fits which load.
Golf, events and the coast
Royal Troon and Turnberry bring major golf events to the Ayrshire coast, along with hospitality, broadcast and retail operations that need deliveries during the build and collections afterwards. Venue access is tightly controlled at those times. Our events and exhibitions courier page explains delivery slots, passes and timed collections.
South to Cairnryan
Cairnryan, on Loch Ryan north of Stranraer, has the ferry terminals for Belfast and Larne. It is on the mainland, so we deliver to the port area, or to a haulier or freight agent nearby, for your onward arrangements. Delivery within Northern Ireland is not part of our service, so the onward leg and any paperwork for goods moving from Great Britain to Northern Ireland are handled by your haulier.
Planning a Cairnryan delivery
Ferry freight runs to sailing times and check-in cut-offs. Give us the haulier's reference, the sailing you are aiming for and the exact delivery point, and allow for the slower A77 south of Girvan when you choose a collection time.
Routes and approximate distances
The A77 and M77 are the main link north. The A70 and A76 run east and south-east through the farming country to the M74, which is the usual route towards Carlisle and England. The A78 follows the coast north through Troon, Irvine and Largs.

FAQ
Common questions
Can you bring an urgent part to an aerospace company at Prestwick?
Yes, to the company's landside goods-in, stores or reception. We do not have airside access and do not deliver to aircraft, so the receiving business takes the part from there. Give us the building, the purchase or work order reference and the person signing. From the north of England, the run is usually a same-day job for one driver.
We are supplying a golf event at Troon or Turnberry. Can you deliver during the build?
Yes. Big tournaments run accreditation and vehicle access schedules during the build and the event itself, so ask the organiser for the delivery point, the time slot and any vehicle pass needed. Send them with the booking and the driver aims for the slot, not the queue. Collections after the event work the same way, with the van booked to arrive once your area is cleared.
Can you move samples between University Hospital Ayr and Crosshouse?
Yes. Crosshouse, on the western edge of Kilmarnock, is about 15 miles from the Ayr hospital, so it is a short direct run. Tell us the departments at both ends and the names of the people handing over and receiving. The sender is responsible for packaging, including triple packaging to P650 for UN3373 specimens, and we agree any temperature range at booking.
How long does the A77 take south of Ayr, towards Girvan and Stranraer?
Longer than the mileage suggests. South of Ayr the A77 is mostly single carriageway, with villages, bends and slow freight heading for the ferries, so average speeds are lower than on the M77. Stranraer is roughly 50 miles from Ayr. We give you a realistic estimate for the run and update you during it rather than assuming motorway timings.
