Perth's place on the map

Perth is small for a city, but its road links are big. The A9 starts its long climb to Inverness at the Broxden junction on the western edge of the city. The M90 arrives from Edinburgh and the Queensferry Crossing, crossing the Tay on the Friarton Bridge, and the A90 continues east to Dundee and Aberdeen. Very few same-day runs in Scotland start somewhere better placed.

Every booking gets its own van and driver. Your goods are collected and driven directly to the delivery address, with no hub and no other customer's parcels on board. We find the nearest suitable vehicle and confirm an estimated collection time as part of the booking.

Who in Perth needs a courier today

Usually one of four groups: head offices and professional firms, such as SSE and Stagecoach, sending documents and IT hardware; Perthshire food, farming and drink producers with samples and chilled goods; Perth Royal Infirmary and other clinical sites; and venues and organisers running the county's events and conferences.

Head offices and professional services

Perth is home to several large head offices, including SSE and Stagecoach, along with insurers, solicitors, accountants and public bodies. Their urgent work is usually paper and equipment: signed agreements, board packs, replacement laptops and IT hardware for a branch elsewhere in Scotland. For computers and servers, our IT equipment courier service covers handling, packaging and signature on delivery.

Food, farming and drink

Perthshire grows soft fruit, vegetables and livestock, and it has distilleries and food producers across the county. Samples for a supermarket buyer, a chilled consignment that missed a trunking vehicle, or a replacement part for a packing line in harvest season are all common. Temperature-sensitive goods go in a refrigerated van, and our refrigerated courier page explains how we agree the range and keep records where the vehicle supports them.

Health and education

Perth Royal Infirmary is the main hospital in the city, and Perth College UHI is on Crieff Road. Clinical consignments travel between hospitals, laboratories and practices across Tayside and beyond. The sender packages specimens correctly before collection, and we deliver them directly to the named department.

Events

Perthshire hosts large outdoor events, sports fixtures and conferences, and hotel venues such as Gleneagles near Auchterarder take regular deliveries of kit and print. Our events and exhibitions courier page covers delivery windows, stand references and collections after the event.

Where Perth traffic slows down

The two pinch points we plan around most are the Broxden junction, where the A9 and M90 meet, and the Friarton Bridge, which carries the M90 over the Tay and can back up at peak times or during maintenance. Inside the city, the older bridges over the Tay into the centre are narrow and get busy at rush hour.

North of Perth, the A9 is a different road from the motorway network. Long sections are single carriageway with average speed cameras, and dualling work changes the layout from time to time. We give A9 timings honestly rather than assuming motorway speeds.

From Perth to Approx. road distance Main route
Dundee 22 miles A90
Pitlochry 28 miles A9
Stirling 34 miles A9
Edinburgh 44 miles M90
Glasgow 62 miles A9, M9, M80
Aberdeen 90 miles A90
Inverness 113 miles A9
Manchester 275 miles M90, M74, M6
Central London 445 miles M90, A1 or M74, M6, M1

These are rounded, approximate road distances. A run from Perth to London is at the edge of what one driver can manage within the daily limit, so we confirm the timing, or a second driver, before the van leaves.

Booking a Perthshire collection

Rural postcodes in Perthshire can cover several miles of road. A what3words reference, a farm or estate name and a note about the gate or yard save the driver time, and that time is often the difference between making a deadline and missing it.

Short-notice runs

Most Perth jobs we see are booked on the day. Our urgent courier service is for exactly that: a van allocated as soon as you confirm, and a direct run with updates until the goods are signed for. For consignments heading east, our Dundee courier page covers Tayside in more detail, and for the long run north, the Inverness courier page explains A9 timings and the Highlands. FAQ

Common questions

We are supplying an event at Gleneagles. How do deliveries to the venue work?

Large venues near Auchterarder run their own delivery arrangements, especially during major events, so ask the organiser for the delivery point, the time window and any vehicle pass. Give us those details with the booking, and the driver aims to arrive inside the window. Gleneagles is roughly 17 miles from Perth down the A9, so a short-notice run from the city is realistic.

Can you take chilled soft fruit samples from a Perthshire farm to a buyer in England?

Yes, in a refrigerated van. Agree the temperature range with us at booking; typical chilled ranges are 2–8 °C. From farms around Blairgowrie and the Carse of Gowrie, the north of England is a single day's run, and the Midlands is possible with an early collection. The buyer signs on delivery and you receive the proof of delivery.

Our office is on the Inveralmond estate. Can a part reach Inverness by the afternoon?

Often, yes. Inveralmond is right beside the A9 at the north side of Perth, so the van joins the road north almost immediately, and Inverness is about 113 miles away. The A9 has long single-carriageway stretches and some sections under construction, so we give you a realistic estimate rather than a motorway one, and we update you during the run.

Do you cover Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Highland Perthshire?

Yes. Pitlochry is about 28 miles north on the A9, and Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, Crieff, Comrie, Kinross and Blairgowrie are all covered in the same way as Perth. Rural addresses can be hard to find, so add directions, a what3words reference or a description of the entrance, particularly for distilleries, hotels and estates.
