Grangemouth sets the pace

Falkirk district has a very different working pattern from its neighbours. Grangemouth, on the Forth a few miles east of the town, has the largest container port in Scotland, chemical plants and a fuel import terminal. Crude oil refining there ended in 2025, and the site has since operated as an import terminal, but the area remains heavily industrial, and the contractors and suppliers who keep it running are some of the most demanding customers a courier has.

The jobs they book tend to be specific: a gasket set for a pump that is holding up a restart, a calibrated instrument returning from a test house, or drawings that a contractor's site office needs before a shift starts. All of that is done with a single dedicated van. The driver collects your item and goes directly to the delivery address, and we confirm an estimated collection time, based on where the nearest suitable vehicle is, before you commit.

What we cannot carry

We do not transport dangerous goods classed under ADR. That rules out many chemicals, compressed gas cylinders, fuels and some battery packs. If you are not sure, check the safety data sheet or ask the supplier for the UN classification before booking.

Port, plant and gatehouse

Industrial and port sites around Grangemouth have their own access rules. In practice, almost every delivery ends at a gatehouse, a contractor reception or a goods-in point, rather than at the machine that needs the part. To avoid the van waiting outside, have these ready when you book:

  • the site name and the specific gate or reception
  • any permit, work order or purchase reference
  • the name and mobile phone number of the person meeting the driver
  • the deadline, and whether a slightly later delivery is still useful

For goods leaving the port by sea, we deliver to the landside address your forwarder specifies. Consignments heading to the Continent by road can go on a direct European courier service instead, with the customs paperwork arranged through your broker.

Falkirk town, Larbert and the trade estates

Falkirk itself has a mix of retail, public services and light industry. Middlefield Industrial Estate, on the east side of the town, has trade counters, workshops and distributors, and there are smaller estates around Camelon, Bonnybridge and Grangemouth. Bus building is a long-standing Falkirk industry, with Alexander Dennis making buses in the district, and the wider engineering supply chain generates a steady stream of urgent parts. Our manufacturing and engineering courier page covers those runs in more detail.

Forth Valley Royal Hospital at Larbert is the main acute hospital for the Forth Valley, and it receives and sends clinical consignments every day. Packaging is the sender's job; delivering to the right department on time is ours.

Roads around Falkirk

Falkirk sits on the M9 between Edinburgh and Stirling, with junctions 5 and 6 serving Grangemouth and Falkirk, and the M876 linking the M80 with the Kincardine and Clackmannanshire bridges. The M80 runs to Glasgow, which makes the district one of the few places in Scotland where both big cities are around 25 miles away.

The slow points are the M9 junctions around Grangemouth at peak times, the roads into the port area when freight traffic is heavy, and Falkirk town centre during the rush hour. For Edinburgh Airport and west Edinburgh, the M9 is direct, and the Edinburgh courier page covers the city itself.

Booking a Falkirk job

The fastest bookings are the ones with complete details. Tell us what the item is, its weight and size, both addresses and the deadline, and we confirm the vehicle and price before collection. For runs into Glasgow, our Glasgow courier page explains the city's Low Emission Zone and the main routes. When everything is ready, book an urgent courier and the van is allocated straight away.

FAQ

Common questions

A contractor at a Grangemouth plant needs a seal kit during a shutdown. Can you get it to the gate?

Yes, provided the item is not classed as dangerous goods, as we do not carry ADR consignments. Give us the site, the gate or contractor reception, the permit or job reference and the name of the person collecting from the driver. Industrial sites rarely let couriers drive in, so plan for a handover at the gatehouse. You get a signed proof of delivery showing the time.

Can you deliver export cartons to a forwarder at Grangemouth docks?

We deliver to the landside address your forwarder or haulier gives you, whether that is a warehouse, a packing shed or a reception point at the port. Send us the booking reference and any delivery window, and have the export paperwork finished before collection. Loading into containers and anything beyond the reception point are handled by the forwarder.

Our clinic needs to send samples to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert. What do we need to do?

Package the samples before the driver arrives: UN3373 specimens need triple packaging to P650, and the sender is responsible for that. Then tell us the department, the entrance and the name of the person receiving. Larbert is only a few miles from central Falkirk, so this is usually a short direct run. If a temperature range applies, say so when you book.

Do you cover Bo'ness, Linlithgow, Denny and Bonnybridge?

Yes. All of Falkirk district and the neighbouring towns are covered, including Bo'ness, Polmont, Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Denny, Bonnybridge and Slamannan, as well as Linlithgow in West Lothian. Each booking is a dedicated van from the nearest suitable location, so a job in Denny is handled in the same way as one in the town centre.

Is it quicker to cross the Kincardine Bridge or the Clackmannanshire Bridge to reach Fife?

It depends on the address and the traffic at the time. Both crossings are reached from the M876: the Clackmannanshire Bridge carries the main road towards Kincardine and west Fife, while the older Kincardine Bridge suits some local addresses near Kincardine and Culross. For Dunfermline, Rosyth and the Fife coast, the driver picks the crossing on the day, and either way the run is short.
