A city on the Menai Strait
Bangor is a small city with a large catchment. It serves as the hospital, university and commercial centre for most of Gwynedd and Anglesey, and the A55 runs past it on the way to the island and the port at Holyhead. Almost every consignment here is either crossing the Menai Strait or travelling a long way east along the coast.
That shapes how we plan. Distances that look modest on a map take longer than expected, because the A55 is a dual carriageway with steep sections and tunnels rather than a motorway, and routes south through Eryri are slower again. You get one van and driver for your consignment, an estimated collection time based on where the nearest suitable vehicle is, and live updates while it travels.
The hospital and the university
Ysbyty Gwynedd, at Penrhosgarnedd on the south-western edge of the city, is the main acute hospital for north-west Wales. Specialist work is often shared with hospitals in Glan Clwyd, Wrexham, Liverpool and Manchester, which means samples, medicines and equipment move along the A55 at all hours. Diagnostic specimens must be triple-packaged by the sender before collection; our medical and pharmaceutical courier page explains what we need from you.
Bangor University has buildings across the city centre and Upper Bangor, and its ocean sciences school is at Menai Bridge on Anglesey. Research groups send instruments for calibration, samples to partner laboratories and equipment to conferences, often at short notice.
Anglesey and the two bridges
Two road bridges link the mainland to Anglesey. The Britannia Bridge carries the A55 and takes most of the traffic, while Thomas Telford's Menai Suspension Bridge carries the A5 into the town of Menai Bridge. The suspension bridge has a 7.5 tonne weight limit and has been subject to closures and lane restrictions during ongoing maintenance work. When either bridge is closed or restricted, queues build on the other, and high winds can also bring restrictions.
Once over, the island has its own business and industrial sites. M-SParc, the science park at Gaerwen, houses technology and energy companies. Llangefni has industrial estates and the county council. At the far end of the A55, Holyhead is a working port town with hauliers, forwarders and port businesses. We deliver to any address you give us there, but we do not arrange or promise ferry crossings.
Before a Holyhead delivery
Give us the full address, the name of the person or desk receiving and any gate or yard instructions. If goods are for onward shipment, confirm the paperwork with your haulier or forwarder before collection, because a van cannot fix missing documents at the port.
Along the coast and into Eryri
Parc Menai, the business park on the southern edge of Bangor, houses offices and technology companies. Caernarfon, about nine miles south-west on the A487, has the county council headquarters and its own industrial estates. To the east along the A55 sit Llandudno Junction, Conwy and Colwyn Bay. Slate quarrying continues at Penrhyn near Bethesda, and tourism businesses across Eryri need supplies in the high season.
For time-critical work into England, the A55 links with the M53 and M56 near Chester. A morning collection in Bangor can usually reach Liverpool, Manchester or the West Midlands the same day. For a 7.00 am delivery in England, our overnight courier service collects the evening before and drives through the night.

FAQ
Common questions
Which bridge will the van use to cross to Anglesey?
Usually the Britannia Bridge, which carries the A55 and most traffic to and from the island. The older Menai Suspension Bridge has a 7.5 tonne weight limit, which our vans are well within, but it has had repeated closures and lane restrictions during maintenance work, and when either bridge is restricted the other gets congested. We check the current position before the van sets off and pick whichever crossing is quicker on the day.
Can you deliver to a haulier's yard or freight office at Holyhead?
Yes, to any landside address in Holyhead that you give us, such as a haulier, a freight forwarder or a business in the town. We deliver to the named contact and you receive a proof of delivery. We do not book or promise ferry sailings, so any onward crossing has to be arranged by your haulier or forwarder, along with the paperwork it needs.
Do you deliver to smaller islands off the Gwynedd coast?
Anglesey and Holy Island are connected by road, so they are covered in the normal way. Islands without a road link, such as Bardsey, are not part of our standard service. Ask us with the details and we will tell you honestly whether we can help, for instance by delivering to the mainland departure point for a boat that you or the recipient arrange.
How long does a van take to reach Bangor from Manchester?
Roughly two to two and a half hours for around 100 road miles, via the M56 and the A55, when the roads are clear. The A55 is a dual carriageway rather than a motorway, with tunnels at Conwy and Penmaenbach that close for maintenance, usually overnight, and holiday traffic along the coast in summer. We plan around those and give you a realistic arrival time when you book.
