A working town on the Loughor estuary
Llanelli earned the nickname Tinopolis as a centre of tinplate making, and the trade has not gone. Tata Steel's Trostre works on the eastern edge of the town still produces tinplate for packaging. Around it, and on the industrial estates at Dafen, Llanelli Gate and Trostre, sit engineering companies, fabricators, food producers and trade suppliers whose customers are spread across the UK.
For a courier, that mix means two quite different kinds of job. One is heavy and urgent: a part, a tool or a set of spares for a line that has stopped. The other is perishable: food that has to reach a buyer, a depot or a lab while it is still fresh. This page deals with both, and with the roads that link them.
Parts for plant and production lines
When something breaks in a works or a factory, the part rarely sits around the corner. It might be at a specialist supplier in Cardiff, Bristol or the Midlands, and every hour without it is lost output. A dedicated van collects the part from the supplier, drives directly to your goods-in with no other stops, and the driver hands it to a named person who signs for it.
We need three things to make that work: the full address at both ends, any site reference or gate instructions, and the weight and dimensions of the item. Our manufacturing and engineering courier page goes into more detail on site rules, inductions and stopped-line jobs.
Large industrial sites
Steelworks and big factories control who comes in and where vans can go. Arrange site access before collection, and pass on any PPE, escort or induction requirement for visiting drivers.
Food from Carmarthenshire
Carmarthenshire produces meat, dairy, bakery goods and specialist foods, and many producers are clustered around Cross Hands Food Park and the rural areas north of Llanelli. Their urgent work is usually chilled: samples for a supermarket buyer, a replacement order after a short delivery, or product for a trade show or a tasting.
Chilled food goes on a refrigerated courier van. We agree the temperature range with you when you book, and where the vehicle supports it we can provide temperature records. A buyer in Bristol or the Midlands is a realistic same-day run from Carmarthenshire if the goods are ready in the morning.
Hospital, stadium and weekend work
Prince Philip Hospital, in the Bryngwyn area of Llanelli, is the town's hospital, with Glangwili in Carmarthen and Morriston in Swansea the larger sites nearby. Samples and medicines must be packaged to the correct standard by the sender.
Parc y Scarlets, beside the A4138 and the Trostre retail parks, hosts matches and events that generate deliveries of equipment, merchandise and catering supplies. We work 24 hours a day, every day, so a Saturday morning delivery to a venue or a Sunday collection from a factory is ordinary work; our weekend courier page explains how weekend bookings run.

Getting out of Llanelli
Llanelli sits a few miles south of the M4. The A4138 links the town with junction 48 at Hendy, and the A484 runs east over the Loughor towards Swansea and west along the coast to Burry Port and Kidwelly. The link roads into town from the motorway are the slow part of most journeys at peak times, along with the A484 through Loughor and Gorseinon.
Further west, the M4 ends at Pont Abraham, close to Cross Hands, and the A48 continues to Carmarthen. From there, journeys to Pembrokeshire are on single and dual carriageway roads that are slower than the motorway, especially in summer.

FAQ
Common questions
Can you collect chilled products from a food producer at Cross Hands?
Yes. Cross Hands is about 11 miles north of Llanelli, close to where the M4 hands over to the A48, and a number of food businesses work from there. We send a refrigerated van and agree the temperature range with you at booking; typical chilled ranges are 2–8 °C. Have the cases packed, labelled and ready to load, and tell us if the receiver has a booking slot.
How long is the run from Llanelli to Cardiff during the morning peak?
Cardiff is roughly 55 road miles away, almost all of it on the M4. Outside the rush hour the run is around an hour and a quarter. In the morning peak, slow traffic around Swansea, Port Talbot and the western approach to Cardiff can add a good deal to that. For a fixed deadline, give us the latest arrival time and we will plan the collection to meet it.
What size of industrial part can a van take from a Llanelli works?
More than people expect, but less than a lorry. Typical payloads run from around 500 kg in a small van to about 1,300 kg in a long-wheelbase van, and a Luton with a tail lift takes bulky loads with the lift typically rated to about 500 kg. Exact figures depend on the vehicle, so send the weight and dimensions and we will confirm the right one. Our van size guide has the typical load spaces.
Do you collect from Burry Port, Pembrey and Kidwelly?
Yes. The coastal towns west of Llanelli are all covered, as are Ammanford, Carmarthen and the villages of the Gwendraeth and Amman valleys. Rural collections are no different in principle; the van comes from wherever the nearest suitable vehicle is, and we tell you the estimated collection time when you book.
