Two roads in, two roads out

Southend-on-Sea became a city in 2022, but in delivery terms it is still shaped by the Thames estuary. The city sits at the end of a peninsula, with water to the south and east and the River Roach to the north. Almost every journey out uses the A127 to Basildon and the M25, or the A13 along the estuary towards Thurrock and east London. When one of them is blocked, the other fills up quickly.

That is why we choose the route at the time of collection, using live traffic, rather than fixing it when you book. Your consignment travels in a van booked only for you, directly from collection to delivery address with no hub on the way.

Which kinds of business call us

Calls come from aviation and engineering firms around London Southend Airport, trade suppliers and workshops on the Temple Farm and Progress Road estates, offices, the university and the hospital in the city centre, and seafront restaurants, hotels and attractions that need stock at short notice, especially in summer.

The airport and its business park

London Southend Airport, just north of the city at Rochford, brings aviation engineering, freight agents and office tenants to the area. Airport Business Park Southend, beside it, has a mix of industrial, trade and office units, and Aviation Way Industrial Estate nearby holds long-established engineering and manufacturing firms. We collect from and deliver to landside premises only.

The industrial estates

Temple Farm Industrial Estate, on the north side of the city, and Progress Road Industrial Estate in Eastwood are the main areas for trade suppliers, workshops and small manufacturers. Typical urgent jobs here are a pallet that missed its network collection, a part for a customer in Kent or London, or materials for a construction site elsewhere in Essex. Our pallet delivery page explains which van suits one pallet and which suits four.

Offices, the university and the hospital

The city centre has council, finance and professional offices, and the University of Essex has a campus close to the high street. Original documents, signed contracts and tender bids are frequent consignments. Our document courier service explains how papers are handed over and signed for. Southend University Hospital, on Prittlewell Chase, is the main acute hospital for south-east Essex; we deliver equipment and supplies to named departments there.

The seafront

Restaurants, arcades, hotels and attractions along the seafront need stock and equipment delivered, often at short notice and often in summer, when the road down to the beach is at its busiest. Our weekend courier service covers Saturday and Sunday work, when much of the seafront trade happens.

How a Southend booking works

You tell us the addresses, the goods, their size and weight and the deadline, and we agree a fixed price before collection. We then allocate the nearest suitable van and confirm an estimated collection time. The driver goes direct, you get live updates, and the recipient signs at delivery.

  1. You tell us the job

Collection and delivery addresses, what the goods are, their size and weight, and the deadline. Our guide to what we need for a quote lists the details that matter.

  2. We price it and find a van

You get a fixed price before collection. We allocate the nearest suitable vehicle and confirm an estimated collection time based on its current position.

  3. The driver collects and goes direct

The driver checks the goods, loads them and drives to the delivery address. You receive live updates while the van is on the road.

  4. Signed proof of delivery

The recipient signs, and you receive their name, the time and the signature, with a photo where useful.

Pinch points around the city

The A127 is dual carriageway from Southend to the M25, but junctions such as Rayleigh Weir and Fairglen, where it meets the A130, are regular sources of delay. The A13 is slower through Leigh and Hadleigh, then quicker once it passes Sadlers Farm towards Thurrock. In the city itself, Victoria Avenue and the routes around the station and seafront are busy at peak times and on summer weekends.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you collect from a unit at London Southend Airport?

Yes, from landside premises: the Airport Business Park, offices and warehouses outside the security line, or a freight agent's landside counter. We do not go airside, so goods for an aircraft or a secure area must be handed over by someone with access. Give us the building, the gate or reception and a contact name.

We are a seafront business. Can you deliver stock on a busy summer Saturday?

Yes. We work weekends and bank holidays. On hot days and during events, traffic on the seafront and the roads down to it slows sharply, and loading spots are hard to find. Tell us where the van can stop, any access times set by the council, and whether goods need to be taken through to a back door.

Can you take an urgent consignment from Southend to London Gateway?

Yes. The port is roughly 17 miles west along the A13, a short run on a clear road. Container ports have strict landside procedures, so give us the haulier or forwarder reference, the delivery window and the exact gate. Export documents must be ready before collection, since a van turned away at the gate rarely has time for a second attempt.

Do you cover Leigh-on-Sea, Rochford, Rayleigh and Shoeburyness?

Yes, along with Westcliff, Hadleigh, Canvey Island and the rest of south-east Essex. Each booking uses a dedicated van sent from wherever the nearest suitable vehicle is. Rochford and the villages north of the airport are reached by smaller roads, so give us precise directions if a site is hard to find.
