A small city with complicated streets
Bath is compact, but it is not an easy city to drive in. It sits in a steep river valley, the Georgian centre is a World Heritage Site with narrow streets and limited loading space, and a handful of roads carry almost all the traffic in and out. Planning a Bath collection is mostly about access: where the van can stop, at what time, and how the goods get from the door to the vehicle.
Our service is the same everywhere. One van and driver are booked for your consignment and drive straight from collection to delivery. When you book, we check where the nearest suitable vehicle is and confirm an estimated collection time.
What Bath sends
Bath sends antiques, art and interiors pieces to buyers, fairs and auctions; proofs, event stock and IT equipment from its publishing and technology firms; contracts from law firms in the centre; engineering parts from Newbridge and the Lower Bristol Road; and research and clinical items from the universities and hospital.
Antiques, art and interiors
Bath has one of the strongest concentrations of antique dealers, galleries and interiors businesses outside London. Sold pieces go to buyers in London and around the country, items travel to fairs and auctions, and loans move between galleries. These are the jobs where a dedicated van makes the most difference, because the item is loaded once, secured and not handled again until it arrives. Our fragile and high-value courier service explains how to prepare valuable items and confirm cover. For larger pieces, sofas and cabinets, our furniture courier page covers vehicle choice and access.
Publishing, technology and professional firms
Bath is home to Future, the magazine and digital publisher, and to a cluster of software, design and marketing businesses. Proofs, display materials and event stock all need to be somewhere by a deadline, and laptops, servers and studio kit can go by our IT equipment courier service. Law firms and accountants in the centre send contracts and completion papers by document courier.
Engineering
Not everything in Bath is in a Georgian terrace. Rotork, the valve actuator manufacturer, has its headquarters at Newbridge in the west of the city, and the industrial and trade units along the Lower Bristol Road and around Locksbrook Road house engineering firms, trade counters and suppliers. Urgent parts, test equipment and samples move between these sites and customers across the UK.
Hospital and universities
The Royal United Hospital serves Bath and a large surrounding area. The University of Bath, on Claverton Down, has engineering and science departments that send and receive research equipment, and Bath Spa University has its main campus at Newton Park west of the city.

Access, restrictions and loading
Bath has introduced security restrictions on a number of central streets, which prevent most vehicles entering during the day (broadly 10.00 am to 6.00 pm), with authorised access for some vehicles and loading points nearby. Elsewhere, the old centre has limited loading bays, narrow one-way streets and residents' parking zones.
Help us collect quickly in central Bath
- Tell us where the van can legally stop, and how far that is from your door
- Mention steps, basements and narrow stairs before booking
- Have items wrapped and labelled, with a list of pieces for multi-item collections
- If your street is restricted during the day, choose a collection time outside those hours
Roads in and out
The A4 links Bath with Bristol to the west and Chippenham to the east. The A46 climbs north to junction 18 of the M4, the usual route to London, Swindon and the M5. The A36 heads south-east towards Warminster and Southampton, and the A367 south towards Radstock and Wells. London Road and the A36 along the Lower Bristol Road are the usual slow points at peak times.

FAQ
Common questions
Can you collect from a shop inside Bath's restricted central streets?
Yes, but timing matters. Several central streets have security restrictions that stop most vehicles entering during the day, broadly between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm, with deliveries and collections expected outside those hours or from nearby loading points. Tell us the exact address and any loading arrangement you normally use, and we plan the collection time around it. We work 24 hours a day, so an early morning or evening collection is not a problem.
We are an antiques dealer. Can you take a piece to a buyer in London today?
Yes. Central London is about 115 miles away via the A46 and M4, so a morning collection usually delivers by mid-afternoon. Antiques and artwork should be wrapped and, where possible, crated by you or a specialist packer before collection. Tell us the value when booking so we can confirm insurance cover, or arrange additional cover for high-value pieces. Our fragile and high-value courier page explains the process.
Our office is in a listed building with steps and no lift. Is that a problem?
No, but tell us when you book. Many Bath offices and shops are in Georgian buildings with front steps, basements and narrow stairs. Let us know the number of items, their weight and which floor they are on, so we can confirm what handling is possible and send the right vehicle. Small parcels and document boxes are rarely an issue.
Can you deliver to the Royal United Hospital or the University of Bath?
Yes. The RUH is on Combe Park in the west of the city, and the University of Bath is on Claverton Down above the city to the east. Both have specific goods-in points, so include the department or building, a contact name and any reference number. Correctly packaged medical consignments can travel in a refrigerated van if they need temperature control.
Can you carry magazine proofs or print materials from Bath to a printer?
Yes. Bath has a long publishing tradition and urgent print jobs, proofs, display materials and marketing stock regularly move between the city and printers elsewhere. Give us the collection time, the printer's goods-in details and the latest delivery time. Our printing and publishing courier page covers deadlines and pallet loads.
