A city without a motorway
Salisbury is the only city in Wiltshire and the hub for a wide stretch of farmland, villages and market towns. It has no motorway. Instead, five main roads meet here: the A36 from Southampton to Bath, the A338 from Bournemouth to Marlborough and Swindon, the A30 west to Shaftesbury and east towards Stockbridge, the A354 south to Blandford, and the A345 north to Amesbury and the A303.
For a courier, that means every journey starts on an A-road. Most are quick when clear but they pass through villages and roundabouts, and the city's own ring road and the A36 approaches can be slow at peak times. A dedicated van is the practical answer: your consignment goes directly from collection to delivery, with no sorting centre on the way. When you book, we find the nearest suitable vehicle and give you an estimated collection time based on its position.
The hospital and its specialist services
Salisbury District Hospital, on the southern edge of the city at Odstock, serves a large area of Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire. It includes regional specialist services such as the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. Consignments to and from the hospital include equipment, records, supplies and samples sent to other hospitals and laboratories.
Samples must always be packaged by the sender before collection, with diagnostic specimens classed as UN3373 Category B in P650 triple packaging. Our medical and pharmaceutical courier page explains how we handle hospital and clinic consignments, and when goods must stay cold, we agree the temperature range with you at booking.
Porton and the science park
Porton Science Park, a few miles north-east of the city, houses life science and technology businesses, close to the government science laboratories at Porton Down. Work from these sites tends to be laboratory equipment, research consignments and documents, sent to partners in Oxford, Cambridge, London or Southampton.
We do not carry hazardous materials that require ADR. For anything chemical or biological, the sender is responsible for classification and packaging, and must tell us at booking what the consignment is.
Churchfields, Old Sarum and the trade estates
The Churchfields Industrial Estate, west of the city centre, is the largest trade and industrial area in Salisbury, with builders' merchants, distributors, workshops and car dealers. To the north, the business parks around Old Sarum and the Lancaster Road area add light industry and offices, and the Southampton Road on the eastern side has retail and trade counters.
From these units, urgent consignments are typically a pallet of materials for a contractor, a machine part, or stock for a store in another town. Our pallet delivery service explains vehicle sizes and what each van can carry.
Collections from farms and villages
Rural addresses across Salisbury Plain and the Chalke and Wylye valleys are often a farmyard or a gate off a lane. Send a what3words reference or written directions, tell us where the goods will be, and mention any low bridge, weight limit or narrow access.

The A303 and timings
For journeys east to London or west to Devon, the A303 is usually the quickest road, joined at Amesbury. It has single-carriageway sections, including the stretch past Stonehenge, which slow dramatically in summer and at weekends. We take that into account when estimating timings, and we use the M3 or the A36 and M4 where it makes sense.

FAQ
Common questions
Can a van from Salisbury reach London by mid-afternoon?
Usually, if it leaves by late morning. Central London is around 90 miles away via the A303 and M3, and the drive typically takes a little over two hours outside peak times. The A303 near Stonehenge and the M3 approach to London are the two variables. Tell us the latest acceptable delivery time when you book, and we will tell you straight away if it looks tight.
Do you collect from Porton Science Park?
Yes. The science park is a few miles north-east of Salisbury, close to the A338 and A30. Tell us the building, the reception or goods-in arrangement and any visitor booking the site requires. We transport properly packaged consignments; we do not carry dangerous goods that need ADR, so check the classification of anything chemical or biological before booking.
We farm near Salisbury and need a part for a combine collected from a dealer today. Can you help?
Yes. Agricultural parts are a common short-notice job in harvest season. Tell us the dealer, the part number or description, its weight and length, and where on the farm the driver should go. For large or heavy parts without a forklift at either end, a Luton van with a tail lift is the safer choice. A what3words reference helps a driver find a yard or field gate quickly.
Can you take chilled goods from a Salisbury producer to a wholesaler in Bristol?
Yes. Bristol is about 55 miles away via the A36 and A4 or the A36 and M4 and M32. Book a refrigerated van, tell us the temperature range the goods need, and have them pre-chilled before loading. Send the wholesaler's booking reference and delivery window if they use one.
