- Parts runs for production deadlines
- Signed proof of delivery

The A19 is Sunderland's main street for freight
For most same-day jobs on Wearside, the A19 is the road that matters. It runs north to south along the western side of the city, past the large vehicle plant near Washington, the International Advanced Manufacturing Park beside it, the Doxford International Business Park and the turn-offs for Hylton Riverside and the estates along the Wear. North of the river it heads for the Tyne Tunnel; to the south it carries on to Teesside. The A1231 links it west to Washington and the A1(M), and the A690 runs south-west to Durham.
That corridor explains the shape of a typical Sunderland booking: a part or a consignment that has to move between two businesses in the North East within a couple of hours, or a long run that joins the A1(M) and heads for the Midlands, London or Scotland.
Working with the automotive supply chain
Sunderland is home to one of the UK's largest car plants, and the North East's automotive industry includes a wide supplier base on the estates around Washington, Sunderland and South Tyneside, with more businesses arriving at the advanced manufacturing park next to the plant. Vehicle production works on tight, sequenced deliveries, so the urgent jobs that come out of it are specific: a pallet of components that missed its scheduled transport, a replacement part for a supplier's own machinery, or prototype and test parts going to an engineering centre elsewhere.
We approach these as dedicated, direct runs. One van is booked for the consignment, collected from the supplier and driven straight to the receiving site, with the delivery reference ready. We deliver to the goods-in or receiving point that site names and follow its paperwork and labelling rules. Our automotive courier page goes further into parts runs, and the urgent courier service explains how a call-and-go job works.
What we need for a production deadline
The receiving site's full address and goods-in point, the delivery or ASN reference, the latest acceptable arrival time, the weight and dimensions of the load, and a phone number for someone on site. With those, the driver can go straight to the right gate.
The port and the river
The Port of Sunderland at the mouth of the Wear handles bulk cargo, project freight and offshore and engineering work. When an imported part needs to go straight from the quayside to a factory, or an export consignment has to reach a forwarder before a cut-off, a dedicated van avoids the wait for a network collection. Upriver, the Northern Spire bridge has given traffic between Pallion and Castletown a third crossing alongside the Wearmouth and Queen Alexandra bridges, which takes some pressure off the city centre. Even so, the river crossings and the approaches to the city centre are the usual slow points at peak times.
Offices, the university and the hospital
Doxford International Business Park is the largest office location in the city, with contact centres, regional offices and professional firms. Their urgent work is mostly documents, signed agreements, IT equipment and event materials. The University of Sunderland has its City campus near the centre and its St Peter's campus beside the river, and Sunderland Royal Hospital on Kayll Road is the main acute hospital, exchanging equipment and properly packaged clinical consignments with other hospitals across the region.
How a booking runs
Send us the collection and delivery addresses, a description of the goods and the deadline. We look at where the nearest suitable van is and confirm an estimated collection time based on that. The driver collects, keeps you updated while on the road and gets a signature at delivery.

FAQ
Common questions
A component for a production line near Washington is stuck at a supplier in the Midlands. Can you run it up today?
Yes. Birmingham to Sunderland is around 210 miles, mostly on the M1, A1(M) and A19, so a morning collection normally arrives the same afternoon. Give us the receiving site's goods-in address, its booking or delivery reference and the latest time it can be accepted. We deliver to the goods-in or receiving point the site specifies and follow its rules on labelling and paperwork.
Can you take a container part or project freight from the Port of Sunderland to a site inland?
Yes, if it fits a van. Our largest vans carry around 1,000 to 1,300 kg depending on the model, and a Luton van with a tail lift handles crated items within its rated limit of about 500 kg. Give us the port contact, the release reference and the exact collection point, and make sure the goods have been cleared for collection before the van arrives.
Our office is at Doxford. Can you take signed contracts to a firm on Newcastle Quayside this morning?
Yes. Doxford International Business Park sits beside the A19, and Newcastle Quayside is roughly 14 miles away, so it is a short run outside the peak hours. Seal the documents in an envelope addressed to a named person; the recipient signs on delivery and you receive the proof of delivery. Our document courier page covers legal and confidential paperwork.
Do you collect from Houghton-le-Spring, Seaham and Washington's industrial estates?
Yes. We cover all of Sunderland and the surrounding area, including Washington, Houghton-le-Spring, Hetton, Seaham and the coast down towards Peterlee. Washington's estates are spread across several numbered districts, so give us the full address and postcode rather than just the estate name.
