Wakefield courier for logistics parks, offices and the Five Towns
Wakefield sits where the M1 meets the M62, which makes it one of the easiest places in the north to start a same-day run. We send a dedicated van that collects your consignment and drives directly to the delivery address.
- At the M1 and M62 crossroads
- Missed-trailer and DC slot work
- Signed proof of delivery

Where the M1 meets the M62
They meet at Lofthouse, inside the Wakefield district, and the A1(M) is only a few miles further east. That puts Wakefield close to the middle of northern England's motorway map, so from one collection a van can head for Hull, Manchester, Sheffield, the Midlands or the North East without touching a town centre.
The M1 runs down the city's western side with several junctions in the district, and the M62 carries on east past Normanton and Castleford.
That is why so many distribution centres have chosen the district, and why most same-day work here is about stock rather than envelopes. It is also why Wakefield is a good place to start a long run: Scotland, London and the South West are all realistic same-day or overnight destinations.
Logistics parks: what goes wrong and how we help
The large sites are spread along the motorways. Wakefield Europort sits beside M62 junction 31 near Normanton, Wakefield 41 is beside M1 junction 41, and there are further business and distribution parks at Calder Park near junction 39 and around Glasshoughton and Whitwood near junctions 31 and 32. Their urgent jobs tend to fall into a few patterns:
- A pallet misses the trailer. The network collection has gone, but the customer still needs it today. We send a van sized to the load and run it direct.
- A delivery slot is at risk. A supplier's consignment is late for a booked slot at a Wakefield DC. We collect it and aim to arrive before the slot opens, with the booking reference ready at the gatehouse.
- A shortage at the other end. A store or another warehouse has run out, and a few pallets or cages need to move before tomorrow's trading.
Our pallet delivery page sets out how many pallets fit in each van and why weight, not floor space, is often the limit. If a run needs stops at several stores or branches, it can be planned as one multi-drop courier booking.
The gatehouse is the usual failure point
Most delays at distribution centres are paperwork, not traffic. Before you book, have the DC's booking or PO number, the slot time, the goods-in door and any rules on pallet type, height or wrapping. A van without a valid reference can be turned away.
The city centre and the offices
Wakefield is also an administrative city, with council, public sector and professional offices around the centre. That brings documents, signed contracts, tender submissions and IT equipment that need to be somewhere specific by a fixed time, often in Leeds, Sheffield or London. These are small loads, so a small van is usually enough, and the recipient's name and signature are recorded on the proof of delivery.
City-centre loading is limited, particularly around the Ridings and the main shopping streets. If your building has a rear entrance or a reception that accepts deliveries, include it in the booking.
Hospitals across the district
Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and Pontefract Hospital, together with Dewsbury and District Hospital to the west, form the area's main hospital group. We move equipment, pharmacy goods and properly packaged clinical consignments between sites and to hospitals and laboratories elsewhere, with refrigerated vans available for anything that must stay cold.
How it works on the day
You give us the collection and delivery details, the goods and the deadline. We identify the closest suitable van, confirm an estimated collection time based on its position, and keep you updated while it is on the road. The goods stay in that one vehicle until they are signed for.

FAQ
Common questions
Our warehouse is at Wakefield Europort. Can a late order reach a customer in Scotland overnight?
Yes. Europort sits beside M62 junction 31, so a van collecting in the evening is on the motorway within minutes. Glasgow and Edinburgh are each around 220 miles away, a long but straightforward single run within GB drivers' hours rules. Tell us whether the customer has a goods-in team overnight or whether the delivery should arrive when they open; our overnight courier page explains how early-morning drops work.
Does the Lofthouse interchange cause delays on Wakefield jobs?
It can. Lofthouse, where the M1 crosses the M62 north of the city, is one of the busiest junctions in Yorkshire and slows badly at peak times and after incidents. For a city-centre or south Wakefield collection heading west, the driver may join the M62 at a different junction or use the M1 south, depending on live traffic. We factor this into the estimated times we give you.
Can you take equipment between Pinderfields and Pontefract hospitals today?
Yes. The two hospitals are around ten miles apart, a short run by local roads or the M62. Tell us the department and building at each end and who will release and receive the item. Equipment should be cleaned and packed in line with the trust's own procedures before collection, and clinical samples must be packaged by the sender to the required standard.
Do you collect from Castleford, Normanton and Ossett as well as Wakefield itself?
Yes. The whole Wakefield district is covered: Ossett and Horbury in the west, Normanton, Castleford, Pontefract and Featherstone in the east, and Hemsworth and South Elmsall in the south. Each job is one dedicated van, allocated from wherever the nearest suitable vehicle is at the time.
