A typical Basingstoke booking

It is 11.00 am. A network switch has failed in a client's server room in Reading, and the replacement is sitting in a store room on a Basingstoke business park. Nobody wants it in a parcel network overnight. A van collects it, takes the A33 north, and it is in the client's hands well before the afternoon is out, with a signature to prove it.

That is the shape of much of our Basingstoke work. The town grew rapidly as an office and business park centre from the 1960s, and it still has a high concentration of technology, insurance, motoring and professional services firms, many with clients and sister offices along the M3 and M4. The consignments are often small and valuable, and what matters is that they go directly, without sorting or hub transfers.

Where the work comes from

Basingstoke's work comes from the corporate offices at Basing View, the business parks at Chineham near junction 6 of the M3, the industrial estates ringing the town such as Viables and Houndmills, and the town's main hospital. Much of it runs in the evenings and at weekends, when buildings are empty.

  • Basing View, the office quarter beside the railway station, with large corporate headquarters, including the AA, and smaller professional firms.
  • Chineham Business Park and the neighbouring Hampshire International Business Park in the north-east, near junction 6 of the M3.
  • Industrial estates ringing the town, including Viables, Houndmills, Daneshill, Kingsland Business Park and the Moniton Trading Estate, home to distributors, trade counters, engineers and printers.
  • Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital off the Aldermaston Road, which sends and receives equipment, records and supplies.

Office relocations, server migrations and stock transfers are often planned for evenings and weekends precisely because the building is empty, and we run collections and deliveries at those times as normal. Our weekend courier page explains how Saturday and Sunday bookings work.

IT equipment and office moves

Basingstoke's technology firms move servers, network kit, laptops and monitors constantly: to data centres, to clients and between offices. That equipment needs to stay upright, padded and secured to the side of the van, and it should not be stacked under heavier goods. Our IT equipment courier service explains how to pack it and how we load racks and flight cases.

Contracts, original documents and tender bids also leave Basingstoke offices under deadline. A document courier booking takes a single envelope or a box of files directly to the named recipient.

  1. Tell us what is going

You get a fixed quote before collection. We find the nearest suitable vehicle and give you an estimated collection time based on where it is.

  3. Hand over and follow it

The driver collects, you receive live updates, and the recipient signs on delivery.

Getting in and out of Basingstoke

Basingstoke has two M3 junctions. Junction 6 serves the town centre, the east of the town and the roads north, and junction 7 at Dummer serves the south-west and the A30. A ring road of large roundabouts circles the town, which is quick off-peak but fills up between about 8.00 and 9.00 am and again after 5.00 pm. The A33 runs north to Reading and the M4, and the A339 north-west to Newbury.

The M3 between Basingstoke and the M25 is the main route to London and Heathrow, and a single incident on it can add a lot of time. We follow every job while it is under way and tell you straight away if the arrival time moves.

FAQ

Common questions

Our office is on Basing View. Where should the driver stop to collect?

Tell us the building name, the floor and whether there is a loading bay, a service road or a reception that holds parcels. Most of the larger buildings have a goods entrance or a car park barrier with an intercom, so a name and a mobile phone number for the person releasing the consignment helps. For several boxes or a trolley load, have it brought down to the ground floor before the van arrives.

Can you take returned laptops from home workers around Basingstoke back to our office in one run?

Yes. That is a multi-drop job in reverse: the van follows a planned route, collects from each address and finishes at your office, with a signature or photo at every stop. Send us the list of addresses, a contact for each and how the equipment is packed. Our multi-drop courier page explains how routes and proof work.

How long does a run from Basingstoke to Southampton docks take?

Southampton is roughly 32 miles down the M3, so on a clear road the drive itself is under an hour. Port gates and terminal booking systems add time at the far end, and the M3 near Winchester and the M27 junction can slow down at peak times. Give us the terminal, the gate and any booking reference so the delivery is accepted first time.

Do you cover the villages around Basingstoke, such as Overton, Whitchurch and Hook?

Yes. We collect from and deliver to anywhere in mainland UK, so Overton, Whitchurch, Hook, Tadley, Odiham and the rural parts of north Hampshire are all covered. Farm and village addresses can be harder to find than an estate unit, so send a what3words reference or clear directions with the postcode.
