A town organised around motorway junctions
Ask a Reading business where it is and the answer is often a junction number. The town's commercial life is spread along the M4 between junctions 10 and 12, in business parks that grew up because of the motorway, Heathrow and the railway. Those parks house technology firms, energy and insurance companies, pharmaceutical businesses and the regional offices of national organisations.
That shapes what a courier is asked to do here. A lot of the work is IT equipment, documents and samples rather than pallets, and a lot of it is headed east, towards London, the data centres around the M25 and Heathrow.
Each booking is a dedicated van and driver. The vehicle collects from your building and goes directly to the delivery address without passing through a depot. We allocate the nearest suitable vehicle when you book and confirm an estimated collection time based on where it is at that moment.
The business parks, junction by junction
Junction 10 and the east. Winnersh Triangle sits beside junction 10, and Thames Valley Park lies on the eastern edge of Reading, reached by the A329(M) and A3290. Both are large office campuses with central receptions, so a delivery normally goes to a named reception rather than a loading bay.
Junction 11 and the A33. Green Park and Reading International Business Park lie either side of the A33 relief road, close to Reading FC's stadium. The A33 also leads to the town's trade and industrial areas along Basingstoke Road.
Junction 12 and Theale. Arlington Business Park and the industrial estates around Theale sit at the western end of the cluster, with quick access to the M4 in both directions and the A4 into town.
Business park deliveries
Many Thames Valley campuses ask visitors to pre-register. If your recipient's building uses a visitor or delivery booking system, add our driver's details when we send them, and tell us the building number as well as the park name. It saves a circuit of the site.
IT equipment and data
Reading's technology businesses send a steady flow of laptops, servers, network equipment and storage between offices, repair centres and data centres. Most of it is valuable, some of it is confidential, and almost all of it needs a named person to sign. A dedicated van suits it because the equipment stays with one driver for the whole run. For what to prepare, our IT equipment courier page is the place to start, and dedicated courier explains why direct runs avoid the knocks of a sorting network.
Hospital, university and offices in town
The Royal Berkshire Hospital on London Road and the University of Reading at Whiteknights are two of the town's largest institutions. Both send and receive equipment, documents and properly packaged samples. In the town centre, offices around the station and Forbury Square generate contracts, tender submissions and urgent replacement parts.

Roads, rivers and pinch points
The M4 runs along the south of Reading and is the main route east to Heathrow and London and west to Swindon and Bristol. The A33 heads south to Basingstoke and the M3, the A4 runs east to Maidenhead and Slough and west to Newbury, and the A329(M) links the town to Wokingham and Bracknell.
The Thames is the main obstacle. Few road bridges cross it, so routes between Caversham and the south of the town funnel through Caversham Bridge and Reading Bridge, which back up at peak times. The inner distribution road around the centre and the A33 near Rose Kiln Lane are other slow points. The M4 itself is busy between Reading and Heathrow for much of the day.

FAQ
Common questions
Can you move a rack of servers from Green Park to a data centre near the M25 today?
Yes, as long as we know what we are moving. Tell us the number of units, their weights, whether they travel in a rack or boxed, and the access arrangements at both ends, including any security booking at the data centre. Many sites want the driver's name and the vehicle registration in advance, which we send once the van is allocated. Our IT equipment courier page covers packing and handling for this kind of move.
We are in Caversham. Does being north of the river make collections slower?
It can add time at peak hours. Only a handful of road bridges cross the Thames in and around Reading, and Caversham Bridge and Reading Bridge both queue in the morning and late afternoon. For a timed delivery heading south or onto the M4, we allow for that when we plan the route. Outside the rush hours the difference is small.
How do drop-offs work at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on London Road?
Yes. The hospital is on London Road, east of the town centre, and deliveries go to the entrance or department your contact specifies. Parking near the main buildings is tight, so give us the department, the delivery point and a mobile phone number for the person receiving. If the goods are clinical samples, they must be packaged by the sender before collection, and a refrigerated van can be booked if they need to stay chilled.
Can you take an export shipment from Theale to an air freight forwarder at Heathrow?
Yes. Theale is about 30 miles from the Heathrow cargo area along the M4, and we deliver to the landside warehouse your forwarder names. Have the booking reference, the air waybill number if it has been issued, and the commercial paperwork attached or ready to hand over. If you need the air freight itself arranged, our international courier page explains how that is done through partner carriers.
Do you collect from the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus?
Yes. Whiteknights is a large site with several entrances and internal roads, so the most useful thing you can give us is the building name, the nearest entrance and a contact who will meet the driver. Research equipment and samples need the same preparation as any other: packed, labelled and, for anything heavy or delicate, described in full when you book so we can send the right van.
