Maidstone sits between London and the Channel
Maidstone is the county town of Kent, and its position shapes most of the urgent work that leaves it. London is roughly 40 miles north-west, the Channel ports and the Eurotunnel terminal are about the same distance south-east, and the M20 links all three. A consignment from Maidstone often has to go somewhere with a fixed deadline at the far end: a court list, a ferry booking or a factory that has stopped.
For that sort of job, we send one dedicated van and driver. The vehicle collects your consignment and drives directly to the delivery address with no depot sorting on the way. At booking, we find the closest suitable van and give you an estimated collection time from its position.
The work that comes out of Maidstone
Courts, council offices and professional firms
As the county town, Maidstone has Kent County Council's main offices, the Crown Court and a cluster of solicitors, accountants and surveyors around the town centre. Their urgent consignments are mostly paper: bundles for a hearing, signed completion documents, original deeds or a planning submission with a deadline. Our document courier service explains how originals are handed over and signed for, and the legal and financial courier page covers the deadlines firms usually work to.
Healthcare and the medical campus
Maidstone Hospital at Barming is the main acute hospital for the area, and the Kent Medical Campus near junction 7 of the M20 is growing as a base for clinics and healthcare businesses. Private clinics, labs and suppliers send equipment, records and samples between sites in Kent and into London. Samples must be packaged by the sender before collection; for UN3373 Category B, that means P650 triple packaging. If goods must stay cold, book a refrigerated van and we agree the temperature range with you at booking.
Industrial estates and trade
Parkwood Industrial Estate, off Bircholt Road in the south of the town, is home to trade counters, engineering firms and small manufacturers. Eclipse Park, beside the M20 at junction 7, has trade and warehouse units, and the stretch from Aylesford to Larkfield along junctions 4 to 6 has a long run of distribution and industrial sites. Typical requests are a pallet of stock that missed a network collection, a replacement part for a production line, or a van load of materials for a site in London.

When the M20 is the problem
The M20 is quick when it flows, but it is also the road that absorbs cross-Channel disruption. When ferry or tunnel traffic backs up, Operation Brock puts a contraflow on the motorway between junctions 8 and 9 and holds lorries on the coastbound side. Delays then spread onto the A20 and the roads through Maidstone itself.
The other slow points are local. The A229 over Blue Bell Hill towards the Medway towns queues at peak times, the town centre gyratory and the bridges over the Medway get congested, and the A249 to Sittingbourne and the M2 can be heavy around junction 7.
Planning around Channel disruption
If your delivery is heading to Dover, Folkestone or a forwarder near the ports during a period of disruption, tell us the latest acceptable arrival time. We check the current traffic picture before we confirm the booking and will say plainly if the timing is at risk.

Beyond Kent
Because Maidstone is so close to the Channel crossings, some customers send goods straight on to Europe. Our European courier service uses a dedicated van for the whole trip, with export declarations and EU import formalities handled by your customs agent. You need the commercial invoice, EORI number and commodity codes ready before collection.
For other parts of the county, see our Kent courier page. Work heading into the capital is covered on the London courier page, which explains delivery inside the Congestion Charge and ULEZ areas. When you are ready, get a Maidstone quote or call 020 4525 2039.
FAQ
Common questions
What happens to a booking if Operation Brock is running on the M20?
We still run it, but we plan the route rather than assume the motorway. When Brock is in place, traffic in both directions shares a contraflow on the London-bound side between junctions 8 and 9 and speeds drop, so runs towards Ashford and the coast may be better on the A20 for part of the way. We tell you at booking if the timing looks tight, and you get live updates during the job.
Can you take signed documents from a Maidstone solicitor to a court in London today?
Yes. Central London is around 40 miles from Maidstone, so a morning collection normally leaves plenty of time before a court or chambers closes for filing. Tell us the court or building, the department and any filing deadline. The documents go in one van with one driver, and the recipient's name, the time and a signature are recorded on the proof of delivery.
Do you deliver to businesses at Kings Hill and West Malling?
Yes. Kings Hill, West Malling, Aylesford, Larkfield and Snodland are a few miles west of Maidstone and are covered in exactly the same way. Give us the building name and the reception or goods-in point, as business parks often have several units with similar addresses.
Can a van take stock from Parkwood to a retailer in Brighton or Southampton the same day?
Yes. Brighton is about 60 miles away and Southampton nearer 115, both workable as same-day runs from a morning or early-afternoon collection. Tell us the number of boxes or pallets, the weight and the store's delivery window. If the store has no loading dock, a Luton van with a tail lift lets the driver lower pallets to the ground.
We are in a village outside Maidstone. Is that any different?
Not in how we book it. Villages around the Weald, the North Downs and the Medway valley are collected in the same way as an address in the town centre. Rural lanes can slow the last mile, so a postcode plus a note on access, such as a farm track or a gate code, helps the driver find you first time.
