Who books a courier in Tunbridge Wells

Tunbridge Wells is more office and shop than factory. The town has a large professional services community, with solicitors, accountants, insurers, financial advisers and estate agents, and a strong independent retail scene around the Pantiles, the High Street and Mount Pleasant. Tonbridge, a few miles north, adds a busier commercial and industrial side.

So the typical urgent consignment from here is light and important: a bundle of signed documents, a set of keys, a client's original papers, a jewellery repair, a box of stock for a sister shop, or a laptop for a colleague working from another office. Each one goes in its own vehicle, directly from you to the recipient. We look at where our nearest suitable van is when you book and give you an estimated collection time on that basis.

Documents with a deadline

Legal and financial work drives a lot of courier traffic out of Tunbridge Wells. Completion documents, court bundles, signed contracts and original wills often have to reach a London or Kent office the same day, and the sender needs proof that they arrived.

A dedicated booking means no depot, no sorting and no second driver. The envelope or box stays with one driver from your reception to the named recipient, who signs for it. Our legal and financial courier page covers deadline work for solicitors, banks and accountants, and our document courier service covers everything from a single envelope to a set of archive boxes.

Before a document collection

  • The recipient's full name, firm, floor and any post room or reception rules
  • The latest acceptable delivery time, not just "today"
  • A contact at your end who can release the documents
  • Whether the recipient's building closes early on Fridays or holds deliveries at security

North Farm, Tonbridge and the trade side

The North Farm Industrial Estate and the neighbouring retail parks along Longfield Road, on the north-eastern edge of the town, are where most of Tunbridge Wells' trade and light industrial businesses are. Builders' merchants, electrical and plumbing wholesalers, car dealers and service centres, printers and distributors all operate there. Tonbridge and Paddock Wood have further industrial and warehousing sites.

From these units, urgent work is about keeping a job going: fittings for a contractor in Hastings, a part for a car waiting on a ramp, or a run of print for an event. North Farm is close to the A21, which helps vans get away quickly once loaded.

Hospitals and healthcare

Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury, run by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, sits just off the A21 east of the town. Private clinics and practices in the town and nearby also send samples, equipment and records. All samples must be packaged by the sender before collection; for consignments that must stay cold, a refrigerated courier booking is the right choice.

Roads out of town

The A21 is the main artery. Dualled between Tonbridge and Pembury, it runs north to the M25 at Sevenoaks and south to Hastings, though south of Pembury it narrows and slows through the Weald. The A26 runs north through Southborough to Tonbridge and on to Maidstone, and south to Crowborough. The A264 heads west to East Grinstead and the Gatwick area.

In the town itself, the A26 through Southborough and the roads around the station and the Pantiles are the slow points, particularly at school times.

FAQ

Common questions

We are a conveyancing firm in Tunbridge Wells. Can you take signed completion documents to a London law firm by 3.00 pm?

Usually, yes, if we have the booking in good time. The City is about 40 miles away via the A21 and M25 or the A21 and A20, and traffic into London is the variable. Book as early as you can, tell us the latest acceptable time, and give us the recipient's name and the building's post room or reception rules. The recipient signs, and you get the proof of delivery for your file.

Our shop in the Pantiles has no parking outside. How does a collection work?

Give us the nearest point where a van can stop legally and briefly, and a mobile phone number. Our driver calls on arrival and someone brings the goods out, or the driver walks to the shop if it is a short distance and the load is small. For bulkier stock, a nearby service road or a car park is usually easier than the street in front of the shop.

Can you get a part to a customer at Gatwick from North Farm this afternoon?

Yes. Gatwick is roughly 30 miles west, using the A264 and A22 or the M25 and M23 depending on traffic. Tell us whether the delivery is to an office, a hotel or a cargo agent, and give us any site reference. We deliver landside only, so anything for an aircraft or an airside workshop must go via the agent or company that has airside access.

Do you collect from Tonbridge, Paddock Wood and Crowborough as well?

Yes. We cover the whole of mainland UK, so Tonbridge, Southborough, Paddock Wood, Pembury, Crowborough and the villages of the High Weald are all within scope. Some rural lanes are narrow and unsuited to larger vans, so mention any access issue when you book and we will choose the vehicle with that in mind.
